(Trail) run for the hills
Zermatt has countless routes for runners, giving beginners and pros plenty to choose from. With different distances and altitude metres, there are routes for both the vertical and ultra runner and, thanks to the mountain transport system, you can easily run individual routes and shorten passages. This is especially practical for beginners who can run the varied trails high above Zermatt on technical terrain without having to climb many metres in altitude. For well-trained and technically skilled trail runners, we suggest running the various Matterhorn Ultraks routes which include the most beautiful trails around Zermatt.
Three of our favourite trails
1. Via the Ritzigrad to Rothorn. The view of the 4’000-metre peaks and Zermatt’s panorama is seriously impressive.
2. The Sunnegga trail. It’s short and steep and, once at the top, you’re rewarded with a great view. If you want, you can even jump in the Leisee lake to cool off.
3. Prefer seclusion? You’ll find peace and quiet in the Hohbalmen region with the Edelweiss trail.
