Why the SCHLOSS Spa belongs on your Zermatt itinerary

Schloss Zermatt Schlossspa Hemp Sauna 01

The SCHLOSS CBD & Adaptogenic Spa is in the heart of Zermatt, close to the station and open to hotel guests and day visitors. Whether you’re staying with us, staying elsewhere, or coming into the village for the day, you can book a treatment, use the spa facilities and give yourself a few hours of recovery.

People often search for the best spa in Zermatt because they want somewhere calm, central and properly set up for mountain recovery. SCHLOSS’s spa covers the full reset loop: CBD massages, adaptogenic facials, saunas, steam, an ice room, a salt relaxation room, pool access and time to FLOW down.

Here’s why it’s one of the best things to do in Zermatt…

1. CBD treatments made for post-mountain legs Read

SCHLOSS Zermatt was the first hotel in Switzerland to develop a wellbeing concept based around CBD, and it remains a big part of what makes our spa different.

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a plant-based compound from hemp. Unlike THC, it is non-intoxicating, so there is no high, no fog, and no funny business. In spa treatments, CBD has become known for helping people settle, easing the feel of tired muscles and supporting a deeper sense of calm.

At the SCHLOSS Spa, we use CBD oil in massages and CBD products in selected treatments. You’ll also find hemp in our herbal sauna and CBD in some of our teas.

If CBD is not for you, no problem. Every treatment can be carried out with non-CBD care products instead. Tight calves, ski legs, trail legs, desk shoulders… You name it, all are welcome.

Must-try: our 80-minute CBD Signature Treatment. Pick a relaxing or activating version, then let the treatment work through touch, scent, sound, sight and taste from head to toe.

2. Adaptogenic facials for skin that’s done a lot Read

While adaptogens may be new to many, they’ve been used in plant-based wellbeing practices for a long time. They are non-toxic plants and plant extracts associated with helping the body respond to stress. In skincare, they are loved for being rich in antioxidants and supporting skin that feels tired, dry or out of balance.

At the SCHLOSS Spa, our adaptogenic facial and beauty treatments use products from Herbar, a brand built around functional mushrooms and ingredients such as Tremella, Reishi, Cordyceps, Rhodiola and other plant powerhouses designed to support the skin barrier, glow and recovery.

That may sound technical, but the experience is simple. You arrive with mountain skin: sun, cold, wind, sweat, SPF, dry air, perhaps a little too much good wine the night before. You leave feeling fresher and feeling good.

Must-try: the Body & Face 360 Combo. It starts with a glow-focused facial, continues with a foot bath and reflexology massage, and finishes with Chinese tea and Skin Pearls.

3. The hot-cold ritual, done right Read

Hot-cold therapy, also known as contrast therapy, has become very popular. Warm the body, cool it down, then rest.

At SCHLOSS Spa, you can build your own cycle with the Finnish sauna, steam bath, Mediterranean bath, hemp sauna, ice room and relaxation spaces. Start gently and listen to your body.

A good cycle might look like this:

  • Heat up in the sauna or steam bath.

  • Cool down in the ice room or with a cold shower.

  • Rest in the salt room or on a lounger.

  • Drink water.

  • Go again - ideally two or three times - or call it there.

The benefit is partly physical. Heat helps the body loosen, sweat and soften. Cold gives you a clean, sharp reset. Rest brings everything back down. But the best part is what the cycle does to your attention. In the heat, you notice your breathing. In the cold, you notice nothing else. In the rest, the mind drops a gear.

4. Salt therapy: a low-effort reset Read

Our salt relaxation room is one of the lowest-effort spaces in the spa, which is exactly why people like it. For mountain visitors, the salt room is especially useful after dry alpine air, hard exercise or travel. Think of it as a gentle reset for the system.

Salt therapy, also known as halotherapy, is traditionally associated with easier breathing, calmer skin and a general feeling of clearing out. The science around salt rooms is still developing, so we keep the promise where it belongs: this is a peaceful, low-stimulation space that many guests find deeply relaxing.

The room is still, dim and quiet, with temperature and humidity carefully controlled. It gives you a pause between sauna rounds, after a treatment, or before heading back into town. Fifteen minutes is plenty.

5. Build your own recovery routine Read

Some days call for heat. Some need a massage. Some need silence and tea.

If you’ve been skiing, hiking or trail running, start with heat. Use the sauna or steam bath, move into the cold, then rest. Add a massage if the legs have done real work. Finish with water, tea and time in the salt room.

If you’ve travelled far, start slower. Book a treatment first, then use the pool, steam or salt room afterwards. Travel days often leave the body wired and tired at the same time.

If your skin feels dry or stressed, go for an adaptogenic facial or the Body & Face 360 Combo. Zermatt gives you sun, wind, altitude and cold in generous amounts. Your skin may appreciate some support.

If your mind is busy, keep it simple: pool, sauna, salt room, tea. You do not need to max out the spa to get something from it.

And if you’re staying at SCHLOSS Zermatt, you can pair the spa with the rest of our feel-good set-up: free yoga, fitness sessions, Technogym equipment, breakfast, and a central location that keeps the village, trains and mountains close.

6. Day spa access for external guests Read

You don’t have to be staying at SCHLOSS Zermatt to use the spa.

Hotel guests get free and unlimited access to the CBD & Adaptogenic Spa. Non-staying guests can book a treatment or massage too. With a minimum treatment spend of CHF 120, you can use the spa facilities for an additional CHF 20.

It is a good option if you are staying elsewhere in Zermatt, visiting for the day, looking for a rainy-afternoon plan, or wanting proper recovery after time on the slopes.

7. A Zermatt spa with pool and evening access Read
