Why SCHLOSS Zermatt is the best hotel for family summer holidays in 2026

DTS Modern Home Rob Christain Crosby Photos ID3646

Family summer holidays work best when the seemingly small stuff is taken care of: food when the kids need it, a washing machine for when the day’s adventures come back on their clothes, activities close by, a pool for the post-mountain splash, and, ideally, a Matterhorn view for the grown-ups who booked the whole thing.

For anyone searching for a family-friendly hotel in Zermatt, SCHLOSS Zermatt is the place to stay. You get:

  • The freedom of an apartment

  • The energy of a hotel

  • Free daily breakfast so mornings still have that hotel-holiday feeling

  • A central location with no cars or taxis required

  • All the facilities that early risers, late sleepers, hungry children and tired legs need throughout the holiday

Here are six reasons why SCHLOSS Zermatt is made for a family summer in the Swiss Alps…

1. Central location: no taxis, no transfers, no stress 01
SCHLOSS Zermatt Winter Ski Sport Hotel Zermatt52

SCHLOSS Zermatt is around 50 metres from Zermatt railway station as the crow flies, so you can walk here in about two minutes. With children, bags, prams, scooters and snacks in hand, that matters. We can also save you the walk by collecting you and your luggage in our electric car at no extra charge.

Once you’re settled in, you’re in the heart of Zermatt.

The nearest bus stop for the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise is a minute away. The Gornergrat Railway is about two minutes away. Bike and ski rental shops are close by. The Sunnegga-Rothorn funicular is about five minutes away. And all of the village’s best shops and restaurants are within an easy wander.

This means your summer days can start quickly. Fewer transfers. Fewer negotiations. More time up the mountain, in the pool, or back on the balcony with something cold in your hand.

2. Apartments and a penthouse with family-ready facilities 02
Family Hotel Zermatt Penthouse1

A hotel room can be a tight squeeze for families. Everyone loves each other, of course, but they also appreciate their own door, a sofa, a kitchen and a place to hide away for a while.

SCHLOSS Zermatt’s apartments and penthouse give families the best parts of home, with the hotel right downstairs.

The apartments are ideal for up to four or five, with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and a small laundry room. Meanwhile, the penthouse sleeps six across three bedrooms, with the option to connect to an extra room for up to eight. It also has a kitchen, laundry room, spacious living-dining area, fireplace and balcony.

All of which means:

  • Children can eat on their schedule

  • You can make an early dinner, late snacks, packed lunches or emergency toast

  • You’re able to wash clothes, dry kit and travel lighter

  • You can sit by the fire, spread out in the living-dining area, and enjoy the balcony when the kids go quiet

For families looking for a hotel with breakfast included in Zermatt, this is the sweet spot: independence when you want it, service when you need it.

3. Forest Fun Park Zermatt is a short walk away 03

The Forest Fun Park Zermatt is about a 25-minute walk or quick electric bus from SCHLOSS Zermatt, meaning you don’t lose half a day just travelling there.

The park is set in the trees at the foot of the Matterhorn, with more than 110 platforms, 83 obstacles and over 25 ziplines across five circuits.

The Big Trail is aimed at adventurers aged eight and over, with around three hours of bridges, ropes, obstacles and ziplines across different levels of difficulty. For younger children, the Kid’s Trail is for ages four to seven, giving them their own 400-metre aerial circuit.

Forest Fun Park Zermatt uses a continuous safety belay system which is the sort of detail that parents want to hear when kids start climbing high into the sky.

4. A Games Room to the rescue 04
Schloss Playroom 02

Every summer holiday needs a good indoor plan on the off-chance that rain strikes. It also needs somewhere for the energy burst that follows afternoon cake, when grown-ups are keen to sit down and children are very much not.

That’s where the SCHLOSS Zermatt Games Room shows its worth.

Table football, table tennis, darts, billiards, Lego and more give our younger guests somewhere to go when they need a change of scene. It also works well between plans: after breakfast and before heading out; after a walk and before the pool; and after dinner but just before bed.

5. An indoor pool & family sauna 05

SCHLOSS Zermatt’s indoor pool is available to all guests, and children of any age are welcome when accompanied by parents. There’s also a family sauna available when children are accompanied by parents, while our full CBD & Adaptogenic Spa is open to guests age 16 and above.

Children can play and swim. Grown-ups can still enjoy all the perks of being in a spa hotel in Zermatt.

6. You’re looked after by a family who ‘gets’ it 06
SCZ Perren Familie 20260121

We, the Perren family, have been looking after SCHLOSS Zermatt since 1984 and we’re still in the hotel every day. That makes a difference.

We know how family holidays work and the little things that can get in the way: finding the right walk for a mix of ages, getting an early table for dinner, working out which lift to take or what to do when rain arrives after breakfast.

You also don’t have to worry about anyone getting lost or being where they shouldn’t be. This is a hotel where children have places to go and things to do, and we’re used to the happy traffic of family life.

Our whole team is part of the family and you can feel that in the atmosphere of the hotel. SCHLOSS Zermatt has life in it. Staff stay with us for many years, guests return, and families are looked after by people who know Zermatt inside out.

A base for everyone to feel good

For anyone searching for a family-friendly hotel in Zermatt, SCHLOSS Zermatt gives every generation a base to bring out their best: children can play, teens can move, parents can breathe, and everyone has space to enjoy their time in the Swiss Alps.

We hope to see you this summer.
