Zermatt’s best après-ski spots for 2026

Zermatt’s best après-ski spots for 2026

Life at SCHLOSS Zermatt is all about balance. After a day spent filling up on the goodness of the mountains - whether you’ve been carving down glaciers or finding your zen in our wellness retreat in Zermatt - the energy of the town begins to shift. As the sun dips behind the peak of the Matterhorn, the après-FLOW begins.

Zermatt’s après-ski scene has a spot for everyone, but here are our favourite places to help you move in-sync with the village’s notorious evening energy.

1. The Sunnegga side: the legendary Champagne Bar 01

If you’re skiing down from Sunnegga at the end of a blue-bird day, this is one stop that’s practically mandatory. Looking over Zermatt village, with a prime Matterhorn view, you’ll find the iconic Champagne Bar.

Housed in a traditional wooden hut, it’s instantly recognisable by its bright yellow umbrellas and chairs covered in soft sheepskin furs. It’s open from 11:00 to 19:00, and has an elite selection of the very best champagnes.

2. The glacier side: high-energy at Hennu Stall 02

For those who want to feel the full fire of the Zermatt spirit, Hennu Stall is a must-visit. Located just below the Furi station, it’s the heartbeat of the Matterhorn Glacier side and, from 15:00 onwards, the dancefloor becomes the only thing that matters in life. The music ranges from international hits to classic alpine Schlager.

You can embrace the local tradition of the shot-ski - a vintage ski repurposed to serve a row of shots to you and your friends - before making your way back into town when the place closes around 21:00.

Note: even if you’re not skiing, you can reach Hennu Stall by foot from Zermatt (it’s about 30 minutes) or take the gondola to Furi station and walk down (about 20 minutes).

3. River-side vibes: Café Snowboat 03

For something completely different, head to the south side of the river to find Café Snowboat. True to its name, this architectural gem is shaped like a boat, sitting at the junction of Vispastrasse and Getwingstrasse.

Opening at 16:00, it offers a more sophisticated, easy-going transition from the slopes. It’s a favourite for those who appreciate a well-crafted cocktail or a glass of crisp local Valais wine.

4. In the heart of town: Papperla Pub 04

Located in the Zermatt town centre, the Papperla Pub is one of the most famous après-ski bars in Zermatt. With an Irish-pub soul and an electric atmosphere, the party starts at 16:00 and often carries on until the early hours of the morning.

You’ll find live bands playing rock and folk from 19:00, and it’s not unusual to see a crowd still in their ski boots dancing on the tables. If you’re feeling lucky, give the ‘drink wheel’ a spin to win a round for your group.

5. Ski straight in: CERVO 05

Between 15:00 and 18:00, CERVO’s two terraces are a stage for DJs and live artists. Sitting at the very end of the Riedweg piste, you can ski right to the door or take the lift from the Sunnegga base station directly to the terrace.

The vibe here is ‘chill-luxe’: smart cocktails, great Matterhorn views, with a side of their famous truffle fries. It’s ideal for those who want to enjoy the last rays of sun before heading back to our centrally located hotel in Zermatt.

P.S. for a different kind of edge…

If the Winter Olympics has you feeling inspired to hit the ice, why not trade your bar stool for the natural rink in the centre of Zermatt? As a family-friendly hotel in Zermatt, we love this as an alternative afternoon activity to get your body moving in the alpine air.

The rink is free to use (with skate rentals available nearby), and you might even catch the local ice hockey team training or the Zermatt Curling Club - one of Switzerland’s most successful - practising their craft.
